This page answers the most common questions from clinical and operational staff using Sentalis. If you cannot find what you need here, contact your organisation’s administrator or reach out to Sentalis support.
Bed cards in the ward view use colour to show patient status at a glance. You do not need to read every card individually — the colour tells you what is happening in that bed right now.
ColourStatus
Cyan glowPatient is in the bed
Dark / no glowBed is empty and available
AmberPatient is out of bed or has been detected moving away
RedFall detected, or a safety alert is active
PurplePatient is in the bathroom
GreyBed is in maintenance or being cleaned
If a bed shows an unexpected colour, open the bed detail view to see the full alert history and current sensor readings.
There are two common reasons you may not see wards or beds:
  • Your organisation has not been configured yet. Wards and beds must be set up by an administrator before they appear in Sentalis. If your facility is newly onboarded, contact your administrator to check the setup status.
  • Your account does not have permission. Some accounts are restricted to specific wards or roles. Your administrator can check your permissions and update them if needed.
If wards were visible before and have disappeared, contact your administrator — this may indicate a configuration change or an account issue.
Yes. Sentalis runs in any modern web browser and automatically adjusts its layout to fit your screen — whether you are on a phone, tablet, or desktop computer. No app download or installation is required. For the best experience on mobile, use the latest version of Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android). Make sure your browser is up to date, as older versions may not support all features.
You can change your password directly from the Settings page:
  1. Select the gear icon in the left sidebar to open Settings.
  2. In the Profile section, select Change password.
  3. Enter your current password, then enter and confirm your new password.
  4. Your new password must be at least 12 characters and include an uppercase letter, a number, and a symbol.
  5. Select Change password to save.
If you have forgotten your current password and cannot log in, contact your administrator. They can initiate a password reset or send you a new invitation link.
When a sensor stops reporting data, its last seen timestamp stops updating. Sentalis marks the device as stale, then offline after an extended period of no communication. While a sensor is offline:
  • Bed status may show outdated information from the last reading received.
  • The affected bed will not trigger new alerts, because there is no live data to act on.
  • A high-risk patient monitored by an offline sensor may require additional manual monitoring.
Sensors commonly go offline due to a low battery, a physical obstruction, or a gateway connectivity issue. Contact your administrator if a sensor has been offline for more than 30 minutes, or if sensors in a specific area are consistently dropping out.
Only authenticated users within your organisation can see patient data in Sentalis. The platform enforces strict data isolation — staff at one facility or organisation cannot see data belonging to another.Patient identifiers displayed in the app are de-identified codes, not names or medical record numbers. This means clinical context is visible to your team, but personally identifiable information is not surfaced in the interface. If you believe someone has inappropriate access to your organisation’s data, contact your administrator immediately.
Sentalis updates in real time. Sensor readings flow into the platform as they are received — typically every few seconds to a few minutes depending on the sensor type and the event being measured. The dashboard, ward views, bed cards, and alerts all refresh automatically. You do not need to reload the page to see the latest status. If a view appears to be stale, check your network connection and try refreshing your browser.
Sensors can occasionally produce a false reading due to movement artefacts, positioning changes, or brief signal interference. If you have assessed the patient and they are safe:
  1. Document your assessment according to your facility’s clinical protocols.
  2. The alert will resolve automatically when the next sensor reading confirms normal status — no manual dismissal is required.
If false alerts are occurring frequently for a specific bed or patient, report it to your administrator. They can check the sensor placement and calibration, which is often the cause of repeated false positives.Never assume an alert is false without physically checking on the patient first.
If you are expecting to receive alerts by SMS or email but are not receiving them, check the following:
  • Check your spam or junk folder. Email alerts from Sentalis may be filtered by your mail client.
  • Confirm your contact details are correct. Your administrator can verify that your phone number and email address on file are accurate.
  • Check your alert subscription settings. Your administrator controls which alert types are routed to which staff members. You may not be subscribed to the alert type you are expecting.
  • Check your phone’s do-not-disturb settings. SMS alerts are delivered by your mobile carrier and may be blocked by device-level settings.
Contact your administrator if the issue persists after checking the above. They can review your notification configuration and test the alert routing.
User management is an admin function. If you are an admin:
  1. Contact Sentalis support or use the account management area to invite new users by email.
  2. Newly invited users receive an email with a link to set up their account.
  3. To remove a user, contact Sentalis support with the user’s name and email address.
If you are not an admin, ask your organisation’s administrator to add or remove users on your behalf.
Only administrators can invite users, change roles, or deactivate accounts.
Alert threshold configuration is managed by your administrator through the Automations section of Sentalis. Thresholds control when the platform raises an alert — for example, how long a patient must be out of bed before triggering a notification. If you believe a threshold is too sensitive or not sensitive enough for a particular patient or ward, speak to your administrator. They can review and adjust the automation rules that apply to your facility.Clinical staff cannot change alert thresholds directly — this is an intentional safeguard to ensure changes are reviewed by an authorised person.
Sentalis supports all modern web browsers. For the best experience, use an up-to-date version of one of the following:
  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Apple Safari (desktop and iOS)
Older browsers — particularly Internet Explorer — are not supported. If you experience display issues or features that do not work, update your browser to the latest version and try again. If problems continue, contact your administrator.
